Joris returned to Enovation to rediscover his happiness at work

Product Owner Joris Schalk (43) has been working for Enovation, part of Legrand Care, for over 6.5 years, spread across several periods. ‘I always said you should never go back to a former employer, but I ended up doing that myself,’ says Joris Schalk. ‘I’m really glad I didn’t follow my own advice.’

When Joris joined Enovation as Product Owner in November 2025, he already knew many of his colleagues and the company’s solutions. For example, he previously worked for just under three years as a Technical Application Manager at Enovation, which was still part of the VANAD Group at the time. After that, he worked for another two years as a Senior Technical Application Manager at VANAD Perform, followed by almost three years as a Senior OPS Engineer at Enovation.

New challenge

In 2019, Joris decided it was time for something different. ‘I found the work a bit tedious and was looking for a new challenge. I then worked as a Cloud Service Engineer Software Integration for a network operator and later as a Site Reliability Engineer and Customer Success Engineer at an IT company. However, I still wanted more variety in my job and more contact with people.’

Back on familiar ground

Through conversations with former colleagues Dré Lameir and Leon Tielemans, Enovation came back into the picture. During these discussions, it soon became clear that the position of Product Owner of product integrations was a good fit for Joris. ‘We were on the same page about the way of working and the content of the role. In my new position, I identify the wishes and needs surrounding product integrations and work with colleagues at different locations to link multiple solutions. I also contribute ideas for content development and carry out some development work.’

Happiness at work

It is precisely this combination of technology, collaboration and substantive responsibility that makes work enjoyable for Joris. ‘You see that a solution develops from an idea to something that actually works. It’s also nice to work with such great colleagues. I really feel the trust and appreciation. For example, I was recently asked to become the Product Owner of myhealthConnect.’

Many possibilities

‘The great thing about Enovation is that there is still so much to develop across all our solutions,’ Joris continues. ‘My position as Product Owner of product integrations is a good example of this. You can really continue to grow and develop. The possibilities are so extensive that, even if your current role is no longer the right fit for you, you can always find something else within the organisation that suits you better.’

Gamemaster

Alongside his job as Product Owner, Joris also plays another important role within the organisation. Every now and then, for example, he organises a games night open to colleagues from all departments. ‘The last edition featured a mix of board games and games on PC and consoles, with around 50 colleagues taking part. It’s a great way to connect with each other and also have fun outside the usual business context. That creates a stronger bond, which helps us work together even better.’
