How Breast Cancer Kent Uses Patient Journey to Support Patients
A better understanding of the diagnosis and treatment options
At Breast Cancer Kent, Patient Journey App helps patients better understand their diagnosis and treatment options, as well as stay informed about all available support options.
Breast Cancer Kent
Breast Cancer Kent (United Kingdom) aims to improve the lives of individuals diagnosed with breast cancer in Kent. The organization does this by funding projects, equipment, and research to support the work of the NHS Medical Teams in the Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells Breast Care Units, Kent Oncology Centre, and the University of Kent, School of Biosciences.
The challenge
Nothing can prepare a person for a cancer diagnosis. Processing the diagnosis is already challenging enough, let alone understanding all the medical information that follows. This is an ongoing challenge for oncology centres around the world. The charity Breast Cancer Kent in England aims to empower patients to understand their diagnosis, treatment options, and available support.
“It is becoming increasingly complex these days. The treatments are improving, which is great for patients, but this leads to very detailed conversations in the clinic. We know that patients remember very little of what we tell them, and often they feel overwhelmed.’’ – Dr. Russell Burcombe
The solution
The amount of information provided to a cancer patient is overwhelming. Breaking this content down into manageable, understandable pieces was a process carried out by our team alongside Consultant Oncologist and Trustee of the Centre, Dr. Russell Burcombe. Together, we not only mapped out how to best organize the information, but we also focused on giving patients the ability to navigate through Patient Journey App as they wish and to tailor the content to their patient journey.
