Relocation of the Treant patient portal to a cloud environment also provides other hospitals with new opportunities

The Treant Zorggroep hospitals in Emmen, Stadskanaal and Hoogeveen launched a renewed patient portal at the beginning of September. By moving MijnTreant from a physical server on location to a cloud-based version, the Treant portal is ready for the future.

In recent years, the Treant Zorggroep (Treant) contracted Enovation Funatic to develop a patient portal and a mobile app for patients that are fully linked to its Nexus ZIS and EPD. After patients log in with their DigiD, this portal gives access to personalised information, personal medical files and various self-service functions.

Before the migration, Treant’s patient portal ran on-premise, hosted by Treant ICT. Treant has now migrated to a Patient Portal-as-a-service, delivered as a cloud application on Kubernetes. With this step, Treant now joins a generic product, allowing it to benefit from further developments and improvements that are released every three weeks.

More user-friendly and better accessibility

This transition may seem like a small change to patients. The patient portal features the trusted Treant house style with familiar functionalities, but with improved user-friendliness and accessibility. “A fresh, modern look and feel for both the browser version and the Android and iOS app,” says Treant.

However, behind the scenes, the Treant IT department together with the Enovation Funatic developers implemented major technical changes in recent months. The project consisted of migrating links and applications, extensive testing and finally, informing all users.

Other hospitals also benefit

The live-go of the new portal was celebrated with cake.

An additional advantage for other hospitals that already work in the cloud version is that they can now also use the new features of the portal. For this transition, a number of functionalities have been added to the JUNE portal, such as the eConsult message module, Custom Content for providing information, Change Appointments for cancelling and/or changing appointments and Single Sign on from the EHR.

Milestone

All in all, plenty of reason for product owner Fleur Maagdenberg of Enovation Funatic to celebrate this milestone with Treant’s employees with a delicious cake. “The go-live went off without any major problems,” Treant reflects on that day.
