Bert Mooij leaves ‘baby’ Funatic with pride and peace of mind
Bert Mooij is leaving Enovation Funatic as of the first of October. After 16.5 years at the helm of the company, he feels it is the right time for a change. ‘Recently, I asked myself the question: will I remain loyal and connected to the company I co-founded and built until retirement, or is it time for me to focus on one job? I feel I can now leave Funatic with peace of mind. And with pride!’
Of course, Bert’s (50) decision came as quite a shock to his team. ‘I was seen as the driving force after all. But Funatic certainly doesn’t depend on me alone. There is a team with excellent people and a strong MT. We have landed well within Enovation and are in a good place. There are career opportunities, we are international and we just make a fantastic product.’
Customer focus
The idea behind the software Funatic develops has always been to put the customer first. This has succeeded. ‘It really is unprecedented how many patients are using our platform every day. We are talking about approximately 1.5 million logins per month. This shows that we really created something that is in demand. Digital care has become part of mainstream care. That’s why I can leave with pride and confidence.’
One focus and less work
In addition to feeling good about leaving a well-oiled machine behind, Bert wants to focus more on one task. As of the first of October, Bert will focus on another company he co-founded several years ago: ConsultAssistent. This company provides a solution that offers better care through digital anamnesis and follow up, including with the help of Artificial Intelligence. As we know, this solution is also linked to Enovation. Therefore contacts with Funatic certainly remain.
‘This choice also allows me to work a little less. I have been working long days and am looking forward to some extra time off.’
Positive
Although he hasn’t said his goodbyes yet, Bert already looks back on his journey with Funatic with a positive feeling. ‘I have learned and done a lot; making software future-proof, secure and upscalable, for example. Building and upscaling a company is incredibly fun. Some things went well, other things I would have done differently today. That’s part of the journey.’
Integration and growth
‘We are well integrated with Enovation and under Enovation’s wings we have grown considerably. The number of customers has almost doubled since we have been acquired. I am proud of what we have achieved and I look back on it with positive feelings. What I really appreciate is that Enovation left the opportunity for entrepreneurship for us.’
History of Funatic
Funatic was founded in 2006 by three partners, including Bert Mooij and Patrick Nelissen. ‘We didn’t have a dime and started building customer portals for banks, insurers and the automotive sector, among others. In 2008, we built an intranet, and later also a website and a patient portal for the Medisch Spectrum Twente hospital. After seeing this HagaZiekenhuis, another hospital in The Netherlands, wanted it too. That’s when things really got rolling. It went so well that in 2016 we decided to work only for the healthcare sector. We grew, partly because of a specific subsidy programme that was set up in 2017. In the following years there was an increasing need for digital interaction and self-service facilities.’
Kid in a candy store
‘The transition to Enovation was a very good step. We were busy working on links to the EPRs and on innovation at the same time, but Enovation’s size and knowledge made us feel like a kid in a candy store. We still experience the synergy on a daily basis.’
And now?
After Bert’s departure, Funatic’s approach will not change dramatically. Customer relations will be transferred to Enovation account managers and relations with our business partners will be invested differently. Fortunately, there is a very strong team. Funatic’s joined forces consist of very experienced developers and architects, some have been with us since the beginning, that says it all.
