Cross-enterprise Document Sharing
Digital sharing of medical information based on international IHE profiles.
XDS is part of our Enovation XDS product.
Healthcare infrastructure for securely sharing medical imaging and documents between collaborating healthcare organisations.
XDS is one of the IHE’s (Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise) technical integration profiles and is meant for sharing medical documents and imaging between collaborating healthcare organisations in a standardised and secured way.
An XDS infrastructure (Affinity domain) consists of an index (Registry), which contains information about the location of all documents and imaging. Together with document sources (Sources), storage locations (Repositories) and viewers (Consumers), this constitutes the XDS network. XDS is content agnostic, which means different file formats such as PDF, JPG, HL7-CDA, HL7 FHIR, DICOM, etc. can be accessed.
XDS networks are often set up regionally. This involves healthcare institutes that have made mutual agreements, e.g. about required patient consent, for sharing the imaging and other documents.
XDS in the healthcare process
-
Collaborating across the care network
Using XDS, healthcare organisations can directly share images, documents and lab results with each other.
-
Nationwide network
The vast majority of XDS infrastructures in the Netherlands are supplied by Philips and Enovation, and these are now technically interconnected.
-
Efficient healthcare
Using XDS, an X-ray made in one hospital can also be viewed by a practitioner from another hospital. This prevents double examinations.
